CLAS IT Updates
UF Policy for Laptops and Mobile Devices
In response to the increased risk of restricted data loss and theft of highly portable devices, the Mobile Computing and Storage Devices policy details a number of required protection measures including encryption.
This policy applies to laptops, smartphones, USB flash drives, and external storage devices used to store or access restricted data.
If you have a UF-owned laptop that needs encryption or have questions about the policy, contact CLAS IT.

Mac Users: Prevent Flashback Trojan Infections
Computers running Mac OS X are at risk of being infected with the Flashback Trojan, malicious software designed to steal personal information and passwords. This malware takes advantage of vulnerabilities in Java if you do not have the latest version installed.
UF IT Security strongly recommends running Apple Software Update and installing Antivirus software.

Java Security Update Required
Due to recent security exploits, faculty and staff accessing the campus network with personal or self-managed computers should update Java to either version 1.6.0_31 or 17.0_03.
Computers running older versions of Java may be blocked from connecting to shared drives and other resources for security reasons.
Note: This only applies to computers that are not managed by CLAS IT. Computers managed by CLAS have been automatically updated.

UF Email Security Tips
Office Communicator (OCS) to Lync Migration
On Friday, January, 27th 2012 at 4PM EST CNS-OSG will begin migrating
users from Office Communicator server to Lync server. During the migration,
clients may experience a brief disconnect as they are moved from OCS to Lync.
Microsoft Office Communicator should continue to work but does not support all the
features available to Lync.
Lync (Microsoft Lync 2010) is available to install in
"CLASnet Applications", which is located on your desktop and in the
Start Menu. (Posted January 27, 2012)
